The 2025 Mt. Baker Hill Climb Is SOLD OUT

Mt. Baker Hill Climb Sold Out – Road Closure Notice for Sunday, September 14

The 2025 Mt. Baker Hill Climb is officially sold out and the waitlist is now full. A total of 450 cyclists will take on the iconic challenge, climbing more than 4,000 feet from Chair 9 in Glacier to Artist Point.

Community Notice:

To ensure rider safety, State Route 542 (Mt. Baker Highway) will be closed to all traffic on Sunday, September 14 during the following times:

  • 7:00 am to 9:00 am – from Snowater Road to Artist Point

  • 9:00 am to 12:00 pm – from Canyon Creek Road to Artist Point

Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for travel in the area. We appreciate the continued support and understanding of the local community in helping make this event possible.

About the Mt. Baker Hill Climb


The Mt. Baker Hill Climb is a challenging ride that takes cyclists up 4,462 feet over 22 miles, from Chair 9 Pizza in Glacier to the summit at Artist Point (elevation 5,076 feet). The course follows Mt. Baker Highway (SR542), known as one of the most scenic paved roads in the country. This rare opportunity to ride a closed course offers breathtaking views, steep climbs and winding switchbacks for an unforgettable test of endurance and grit.

Ride Divisions:

  • 7:00 am – Social Riders (e-bikes welcome)

  • 8:00 am – Recreational Riders

  • 8:30 am – Competitive Racers (eligible for awards)

The Mt. Baker Hill Climb is produced by Whatcom Events, a volunteer-operated 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to manage events that highlight the natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities of Whatcom County while supporting local nonprofit organizations. The 2025 event beneficiary is Shifting Gears, a local nonprofit focused on empowering women through outdoor recreation and education opportunities to remove barriers and foster belonging.
